3… 2… 1… GO! Mario Kart Wii

mkwiibox_tn.png

When I got my Wii I couldn’t wait to have a (created for Wii) version of Mario Kart… When sites like Amazon stated taking pre-orders for Mario Kart Wii, I put an order in right away.

It was only until just recently that I canceled my pre-order and decided to pre-order at my local GameStop (they had a trade-in deal - and I had games that I no longer played). It turns out that my trade-ins completely covered the cost of Mario Kart Wii, and more.

Last week when I called to ask when the pre-orders were going to be available for pick-up, the rep said Tuesday. :’(

I knew that wasn’t right. So I called back the next day, got a different rep, and he said that they were going to be opening early on Sunday (4/27) at 9 AM for Mario Kart!

Since I wanted to get two more classic controllers, a few official Nintendo silicone “skins” for them, as well as one more for my fourth nunchuk, I made it to the Wal-Mart right next door to GameStop…

I pulled into the GameStop parking lot 15 mins early. I thought, oh man I’m the only one here, how embarrassing will it be if I’m the only one there at 9?

Turns out, someone was there before I was! A few mins before 9, three more cars pulled up.

I tried using the wheel, really I did. After about an hour I switched to the remote w/ nunchuk, then I tried it with the Classic controller. I actually prefer the Classic controller… everyone is going to have their favorites.

“In This Moment” by Ryan Farish

New MP3 Icon

Yesterday, March 29th, 2008, I posted (since removed) and sent an email to Ryan Farish expressing my concerns for what I perceived to be very anti-consumer behavior.

What was the problem you ask?

To sum it up briefly: he released a new single to an already established album, which is available as an album-only purchase (you must buy the complete album, no option to purchase individual tracks).

So, if you had already purchased the album just days before the new track was released, like I did, you would now have to purchase the album again to get the new song.

Well, it’s his store, he has every right to sell his music the way he wants, and… you don’t have to buy his music.

True, but I honestly believe that independent artists need all the sales they can get… taking part in what I called "anti-consumer behavior" doesn’t bring back repeat customers, it abuses them.

Results…

This afternoon, I recieved a reply from Ryan, apologizing for this incident… and thanking me for bringing this situation to his attention!

I wrote back to thank him for taking time to personally reply to my comments, and that I appreciated his actions…

… I’m happy to announce that, for a limited time, Ryan’s newest single "In This Moment" is available as a single download for $1.29, or as part of the "WONDERFALL" pre-release album.

I bought this new Belkin mini surge protector w/ USB charger to replace my old, single plug, portable surge protector.

Mat helps shows dimensions, and battery shown to provide scale (since it is larger than what it looks like in the press photos).

The only place that I found that is currently selling them (at time of post: 3/25/08) is Dell.com, which is where I purchased mine.

Journey by Sarah Modene

E-mails gone unanswered…

Sarah emailed me via my music review site, Streams-of-Time, asking if she could forward a copy of her debut album, Journey, for review consideration. At the time, I was recovering from surgery (cancer), and we were not taking any new submissions. However, since I’m a big fan of solo piano, I wrote back two days later explaining what was going on, and that I would honored to review her album.

Months went by with no reply, so I sent my email again hoping that she would still be interested. Both have gone unanswered.

The two free downloads that she was offering at the time, as you could guess, fell off my top played list pretty quickly; and her music and request for review consideration became a distant memory, replaced by albums by other artists…

A gem lost amongst my collection…

Today I stumbled upon the track that I enjoyed the most, “Divided Path”, and I gave it a listen. I was pulled back in, just as I was back in August.

On the second replay, I thought that Journey may now be available online. I checked my regular sources: eMusic, iTunes, Amazon MP3, and CD Baby. At the time of this post, her album is available at:

iTunes (AAC Download w/ DRM), and CD Baby (MP3 Download, DRM-Free)

Going for the DRM-Free option, I placed and order for the MP3 download, and a copy of the CD via CD Baby.

Journey is simply magnificent, offering deep rich original melodies, focused on the middle range of the piano.

I’m glad that our paths crossed for just a few minuets via email, back in August, even if she did or didn’t receive my replies… and I’m sorry that I haven’t had an opportunity to enjoy Journey sooner.

Sidepath URL Redirection App now FREE

62.png

Sidepath, Sam Brown’s awesome URL redirection app is now FREE!

I’ve been using Sidepath to; manage LONG URLs when sending links to family and friends via email, to keep track of how many times a redirect has been used, and to quickly update redirect links on my music review site.

Sidepath is very similar to TinyURL, in that you give Sidepath a LONG URL and it will give you a shorter one, using what ever keyword(s) you give it.

It includes a handy bookmarklet that generates fast and easy short URLs. And because Sidepath is hosted on your own server, you never have to worry about the service disappearing, thus breaking all of your short redirects!

Feeder’s jump to 1.5 brings a bunch of updates, one of which I suggested!

Why Microsoft Should Buy Sony Instead [of Yahoo!]

“[...] there is a solution to Sony and Microsoft’s woes: they should join forces to make one system, for less money. Yes, I’m dreaming big. With this whole Yahoo! merger in play, it will never happen. But both companies have invested too much in video games, and they want to win. So I ask, in case either will listen: why two nearly identical multimedia future-machines? Why not join up and make only one?”

An interesting opinion piece.

I do not agree with the author’s opinion that Microsoft should by Sony.

The less Microsoft in the world the better, in my humble opinion. Not to mention… if M$ did buy Sony, then the gaming market would only have two systems: M$ and Nintendo. More competitors brings more innovation.

Bandwidth Caps Suck!

Time Warner testing bandwidth caps:

Several plans would be offered, offering caps of 5, 10, 20 and 40 gigabytes for a variety of price points. Go over your cap and you’ll start shelling out on a per-gigabyte basis—just as if you’ve gone over your minutes on your cell phone plan.

(Via MacUser.)

Disclaimer: Time Warner is testing bandwidth caps in a specific service market in Texas. I do not live in Texas, and I do not have Time Warner for an internet provider.

DSL service just made it to my neighborhood, before it was either Dial-up or (the out-of-this-world-un-godly-expensive) 2-way Satellite internet. BTW: and the cable company said our neighborhood wasn’t “cost effective” to connect.

Which did we have? Let’s just say “I’m no dial-up surfer.”

More after the jump…

New Mario Kart Wii Details

I don’t know about you, but I’m really excited about the Wii Wheel for Mario Kart. I never really liked racing using a controller. Give me a wheel that will actually works over a controller any day.

“Players can now choose between karts and bikes to race, and each will have its advantages and disadvantages. With bikes, you can perform wheelies to speed up but this also makes turning more difficult. Both karts and bikes also now allow you to perform tricks in midair by turning the wheel left and right, or by moving the wheel up and down. Pulling them off successfully will reward players with a speed boost upon landing.”

Bikes sound fun too. :)
